www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,367185,00.html 'What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet.' (William Shakespeare - Romeo & Juliet Act 2 Scene 2) And if you do not like yours, do not despair. There are literally thousands of name change kits available at one's fingertips. And if that seems like too much energy, just visit one of the self-help centres. For a mere $400 you can be called F—ckface McFee, or even Santa Claus, (as Robert Rion did in 1997). This Friday past, a judge in Chicago legally changed an artist and bus driver, who was once known as Steve Kreuscher, to ‘In God we trust’! Said Steve, "Those words are an endangered species. You might take it off the money, but you can't take away my name." Just goes to show -- It’s as easy as one-two-three! But behold! You dare not try and change your name to Bill Gates or Angelina Jolie! No! For the names of celebrities are apparently oh, so sacred! Daniel J Boorstin had it right when he said, 'A sign of celebrity is that his name is often worth more than his services.' So too, when your new name is to be seen as racialist or obscene. So why in 2005 did the court grant Jose Espinal in New York his wish? For now he goes around by the name of Jesus Christ! Am I the only one who sees the judicial system being a wee bit facetious here? And if you could change your name, what would it be, and more importantly, WHY?

'pandaclaws' is probably the funniest username i've seen in some time. Whoever that person is, watch out - I'm coming to get you Name as brand. Utility. Why not - it makes sense to use everything in one's power to accomplish one's goals, no? But therein lies the rub, I think - our real names are carved out from the actions we employ. Thus, the question of 'if you could change your name, what and why' implicitly calls for change in character. The name changer will have to actually *be* different if he or she wishes it to stick. I would be .... 'Nature Documentary'. Just cos I love those things.
