Last Sunday we went out for the day. Just a typical every-other Sunday outing.. We stopped at a place where there was a flea market, and, me, being the typical adventurer who always HAD to stop at such places, or course started browsing around in glee.. till I saw it. It was the thinnest, scrawniest, dirtiest, thinnest kitten I have ever seen. .. and had been kicked away by a stall owner. It just sat there, in utter dejection and misery. After a short consultation with my better half who knows, by now, that if it is small and in need of help...it comes home to be doctored till a better home can be found for it. A box was procured and the dirty fluff ball came home. We washed it,, a process that it accepted without any fight or fury. In fact, I doubt it had any left in it after the life it must have led up till then. We dried it, brushed it, and gave it much love and attention. Medicine was given with a dropper, and a teaspoon full of food was nibbled down little by little. The next morning I managed to get it to doodle in the sandbox and I was sure he was going to make it. Throughout that day medicine was administered and food given in drips and drabs. By that evening, the eyes were shining and he was purring away contentedly, knowing he was safe, cared for and warm, and that the fight for survival was over. The next morning he started purring as soon as he saw me, and when I picked him up to cuddle even licked my hand., albeit feebly....a few hours later...he was dead..
WHY do people do this to helpless creatures? Throw them away like so much garbage? abuse them??....even laugh about it...
This little kitten died with a little dignity...and knew a little warmth before he died...but how many other animals do not? How man humans...do not?
Regards
