The House of God - The classic novel of life and death in an American hospital...
by Samuel Shem, M.D.
My upstairs neighbor is a doctor of medicine. A doctor of anesthesiology, actually. She lent me this book saying it was very true to form, illuminating the events and challenges when one endures a medical internship to receive a doctorate.
Irreverent and insightful - published first in 1978 - the book has some amazing moments - the soon-to-be doctors forced to grow and accept life and death as practioners, modifying their evolving viewpoints at such rapid pace.
